BISHOPS’ CASTLE – OUTLOOK TOWER
The Bishops’ Castle – Outlook Tower offers a real experience, from where you can admire the unique panorama of Győr. The castle was built at the time of the founding of the state. It is Hungary’s only episcopal residence of medieval origin, and is currently the seat of the Bishopric of Győr. Its present-day appearance can be linked to the name of Bishop Ferenc Zichy. The visitor reaches the top of the nearly 40-meter-high tower after climbing 206 steps. From the top, you can enjoy a wonderful panorama of the Chapter Hill, the baroque downtown of Győr, the remaining parts of the medieval Győr’s castle, and in clear weather you can enjoy the view of the surrounding and even slightly more distant landscape.
JAURINUM- THE TREASURY OF THE CATHEDRAL OF GYŐR
One of the richest collections of ecclesiastical art in Hungary was placed in the renovated halls of the Cathedral of Győr. In the exhibition cases you can see the valuable textile and goldsmith’s items of the bishops who played an important role in the history of Győr. The approximately ninety pieces of liturgical works of art represent nearly a third of the holdings of the Diocesan Treasury.
LEGENDA AUREA – IN THE ATTRACTION OF RELICS
Legenda Aurea “In the Attraction of Relics” permanent exhibition was placed in one of the oldest residential buildings of the Collis Sacer. The Latin title of the exhibition refers to the book from the 14th century called Legenda Aurea. The original version of it is in the Diocesan Library and Exhibition Hall. The main title ”In the Attraction of Relics” wants to show that the relics are parts of our past and also our everyday life and holidays. The exhibition concentrates on the history of the Saint Ladislaus’ reliquary and the Weeping Virgin Mother Picture.
DIOCESAN LIBRARY AND EXHIBITION HALL
The library’s documents include codices, incunabula and old Hungarian books. Outstanding values – among others – the Corvina of Győr from the famous library of King Mathias and the largest codex of Hungary, called Zalka antiphonal.
TRIANGULUM GALLERY
In the form of temporary exhibitions, the gallery gives place for contemporary, sacred works of art, as well as for representatives of many artistic fields.
